Gaga in Gucci

By Emily Bentley

Calling all cinema loving- Gaga supporting fashionista’s… this one’s for you

I can only assume that by now we’ve all got our Gaga returning to the big screen countdowns on, right? T-minus 16 days and counting until we see Gaga shine yet again in the new release House of Gucci.

The latest of Gaga’s endevours see her step into the shoes of Patrizia Reggiani, former Mrs. Gucci and Italian socialite. But dream wardrobe on hand and the Italian dreams aside, she is also infamous for hiring a hitman to kill her ex-husband and went on to serve an eighteen-year prison sentence, which she served several side by side with her pet ferret.

Now, whist I’m not sure whether the furry rodent is yet to be cast or not, the film does bring to the table all the Italian glitz and glam you could imagine, and I’m talking accents and all! Gaga reported speaking in Reggiani’s accent for nine months before she thought it was up to scratch for the big screen. These method actors, ey?

In preparation, Gaga also took up the hobby of photography and made the transition which would make many-a-lady shake in their boots, blonde to brunette. Talk about commitment to the cause.

She spoke with Vogue about the psychological difficulty the intense role left her with, “I had some psychological difficulty at one point towards the end of filming. I was either in my hotel room, living and speaking as Reggiani, or I was on set, living and speaking as her. I remember I went out into Italy one day with a hat on to take a walk. I hadn’t taken a walk in about two months, and I panicked. I thought I was on a movie set.”

The film is set to bring us everything from an 80’s – esque wardrobe, to insights into the power struggle between Mr and Mrs Gucci, oh, and Reeve Carney as Tom Ford also makes a cameo.

The plot follows the pair as they stole the Italian spotlight throughout the 70’s and 80’s and became the regular fixture for magazines and tabloids. The film follows couple as they dripped in gold and used their 20-foot yacht as their regular mode of transport to frequently sail between private Caribbean islands.

I know, it sounds quite amazing, doesn’t it? But please don’t race to add “must own a yacht” to your Tinder profile, because many moons, one divorce, and the distant memory of jet setting later, Reggiani instructed a hit man “not to miss”. This gives Romeo and Juliet a real run for their money.

But it would almost be criminal to talk about the leading lady without even sparing a thought for the blessing that she gave our eyes at the film’s premiere last night, because whatever the assignment was, my God did Gaga understand it.

The star wore an incredible purple gown fresh off the Love Parade runway, and most importantly, it was living, breathing, and serving sleeves. Of course, in classic Gaga style, put a stamp on the butterfly gown with fishnet nights and what only looks like 12-inch heeled boots.

Her co-stars Adam Driver and Jared Leto looked equally as fabulous, although unfortunately they didn’t follow Gaga’s lead with the killer heels, but I guess we can let that one slide just this once.

The release date for the film is the 26th of November and we couldn’t be more excited.

And just a little side note – if you’re anything like me, and this doesn’t sound like your friends, families, or partners kind of thing, I’ll be booking a seat for one with my popcorn and ice blast in hand, so don’t be afraid to do the same!
