The Athleisure trend has become so popular that it has made its way into the dictionary. It’s defined as ‘‘casual clothing meant to be worn for exercising and for general use.’’ The trend emerged in the 1970’s, when the popularity of fitness came to the surface.

Athleisure has filled a gap in the marketplace where clothing is functional, yet stylish. Sports clothing is running away from the gym, and into the office. This relaxed standard has been driven by millennials due to their increased health awareness and a cultural shift in the workplace, which has made athleisure fashion acceptable in the workplace.

Celebrities have also been endorsing within the trend, with the likes of Beyoncé and Kate Hudson releasing their own athleisurewear lines. Blogger, Exquisite states ‘‘Athleisure has become more than a trend, it’s reflecting a massive movement towards healthy living and clothes that help you move better, without any discomfort. It’s even turning up in the boardroom.’’ Designers such as Tommy Hilfiger, Dior and Chanel have entered the competitive space, with the athleisure market expected to reach a high of $61 billion by 2021 in the US.

Athleisure collaborates sports and fashion together, with fashion giving sports the uplift that it needed, and sports creating functionality in fashion. Wearing a pair of well-fitting leggings, available in attractive prints and designs, allows women to get through their busy lives in style, comfort, and ease.
